Entry Portfolio Film

Once given the theme of 'work' for the short film task I immediately tried to brainstorm out of the box and away from the cliché office scenes that spring to mind. Being my second-ever short film I was eager to experiment with my camerawork and editing. I interpreted this theme through artwork, following a teenage protagonist who uses creativity to help cope with the loss of her best friend. The use of colour grading for my flashback shots is what I attempted to do in post. I made them appear brighter and more joyous than the duller cold blue tint of her alone at the beginning of the film. As her mentality improves during her artwork creation, the once greyer tone is returned to natural lighting, signifying her clearer state of mind. The once-harmful alcohol consumed at the start becomes a key element in helping her work out better ways to cope.

Overall, I was proud of my final product all things considered but to improve if remaking something similar I would consider how certain lenses could work better in positioning the audience with my characters/ environment.
