Following our introduction week, we had our first pitches for our grad films. As an editor, I read through everyone's initial proposals and made notes during each presentation. I highlighted a few projects where the story drew me in and I found myself envisioning a range of ways they could be edited together.
I first reached out to Lola on her joint project 'Intrusive.' Being a big fan of music myself, especially spending lots of my spare time at gigs, wanting to pursue editing in the music scene later in my career, this idea was calling to me. The mention of Gregg Araki and exploration of loud-quite noise during the characters coming of age experience also caught my attention having watched alot of his work and being a fan of Mysterious Skin.
In addition, wanting to work on Eve's script last year that sadly didn't go ahead, I was eager to volunteer once more.
Guenole's script last year is also one I really wanted to work on but sadly didn't get green lit. Whilst this ones story is quite different I liked the horror and comedy elements and reached out to read the script. Not wanting to put all my eggs in one basket like last year and get left with no project to edit I'm making sure to show interest in the few projects that catch my eye while staying transparent that though unlikely, if all of them get green lit I would have to either co-edit or drop out of a project as to not overload myself with work and give other editors possibly without a project afterwards a chance. Despite this, I'm eager to play a part in all of then, even in smaller roles like AD.
Finally, Annie who I worked with on The White Nightgown with last year send me a message the following day asking if I was wanting to direct or edit this year for her project. After reading the script I found it of interest to my and again was happy to for the time being to join as an editor.
Green / Amber Lit Projects
Before the next round of pitches where other team mebers would be joining to propose the idea, groups got together to dissuss, develop, and create a new deck to pitch. A few days after asking Intrusive to read their script, I was informed that a script wasn't done yet but i'd get it the following week. Unfotunately, a few days later I had seen on a roles spreadsheet that the edior for this project had been filled by another class member, explaining the lack of communication that followed.
-Guenole luckly contacted me swiftly to explain he would not be taking his project further after a lack of interested and commitement to other projects.
This left me to persue 'Upstairs' and 'Punch and Judy'.
